Original Wwi Austrian M17 Combat Helmet Sz 66Offered for bids is this original wwi austrian m17 combat helmet. The sehll is in excellent condition, retaining 99% of it's as issued olive drab/brown paint finish inside & out. It would be 100% if not for a few chips on the outside. Teh only stamps are the numerals 21, stamped into the very top of the helmet. The original white calfskin liner is complete, except for the horse hair lost from the front 2 fingered pad, a finger separated from a side pad, & the grommets pulled through & missing from the other side pad. The cushions of the 2 side pads retain their horse hair stuffing. All are mounted to the steel liner badn as are the liners of the german m17.
The strap is canvas, with thin leather tabs, w/aluminum & steel, taht is sewn in place directly to the chinstrap bales. Notice this deviation from the pickelhaube chinstrap mounting studs used on both the m16 & m17 german helmets. Instead, there were mounted regular d-ring type bales to & higher up the sides of the austrian helmet shell.
Obviously a better measn of fastening a more secure & functional strap. Another quality improvement over the german model is the use of steel grommet re-enforcements to the tie string lacing at the finger tips. Usps priority mail is the domestic shipping service i will use for this item. The domestic flat rate of $17.00 will include delivery confirmation & insurance. International ibdders are very welcome! I will ship via usps priority international mail (6-10 days), unless express mail is requested. Insrance is recommended & will cost extra, ubt is not required.
